Lucy and Chemistry

Lucy has two sisters and one brother. They always go to school and she’s always at home with her grandma. She wants to know what they are doing at school. When they come back, she starts asking endless questions about their school day. When they do their homework, she sits next to them, and asks them endless questions about their homework. One day, one of her sisters decides to tell Lucy about her school day.

She tells Lucy about her lessons but Lucy gets bored very quickly. ‘’We have history every day. We learn about some important people from the past. ‘’ But Lucy gets bored because she doesn’t like subjects about old things. Then her sister says ‘’And we have chemistry.’’ Lucy gets curious. She starts to ask her sister about chemistry. ‘’So, what kind of things do you learn in these days?’’. Her sister answers ‘’We learnt about different states of matter.’’ This is not enough for Lucy. She wants to learn more about this matter thing. Her sister brings a glass of water and ice from the kitchen. She explains ‘’Water is liquid. If you freeze it, what happens?’’ Lucy answers happily ‘’I know even babies know that; ice, ice!’’ ‘’Yes, you are right!’’ says her sister. ‘’Ice is liquid.’’ Then she adds ‘’What happens if this ice cube melts?’’ Lucy answers ‘’It turns into water again, don’t you know that? It’s liquid again.’’ Then she takes Lucy to the kitchen. She puts a pot of water on the cooker. She starts to heat it. Lucy says ‘’ I always see it when grandma cooks, but I don’t know what it is.’’ ‘’It’s steam. If you heat the water, it turns into gas.’’ Lucy is amazed. She doesn’t know that they do experiments at school. ‘’I can’t wait to start school!’’ she says happily.
