Maria from Madrid - Spain

Maria is 14 years old. She lives in Madrid, Spain. It’s a very big city and it is very difficult to get around. People usually use public transport but the roads are still very busy at rush hour.

Maria goes to high school and it is not far from her house but she takes a train every morning. She likes it because she gets a chance to talk to her best friend, Nancy. They travel together and sit together on the train. The journey takes 10 minutes. When they get off, they go to the nearby supermarket to buy some lunch.

Sometimes there’s a long queue and they have to wait. Yesterday it was a sunny day and Maria and Nancy decided to walk to school. It takes about 20 minutes on foot and they had fun on their way but after a while they realised it was 8 o’clock already! Their first lesson starts at 8:15 so they had to run to the school. They couldn’t stop by the supermarket to buy their food so they shared a pack of biscuits for lunch.
