Mauna Loa

Mauna Loa is the largest volcano in the world. It is half of the island of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean. Mauna Loa means Long Mountain in Hawaiian. It is the largest mountain on Earth. If you measure it from the underwater, Mauna Loa is much bigger than Mount Everest. From sea level, the volcano is 4,169 metres high. It is about 600–750 years old. Mauna Loa has erupted 33 times since 1843. In June 1950 a small village was destroyed by a lava flow. Mauna Loa formed many islands which are part of Hawaii. The last biggest eruption was in 1984.
