Monaco Grand Prix

The Monaco Grand Prix began in 1929. It is the most important event of the racing season. Each year 25 million people watch the race and it is becoming more popular. However, the 2012 Monaco Grand Prix had the worst audience numbers because the chance of rain threatened to stop the race at any time.

The Olympics

The Olympics attract more viewers during their multi-day run than any single sporting event, but it’s not a sport itself that attracts the biggest Olympic audience. The opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics in 2008 was watched by 600 million people.

Fifa World Cup

The FIFA World Cup is the soccer championship that has been held every four years since 1930. The Cup’s final game is the single most viewed sporting event on earth. The 2010 match between Spain and The Netherlands was watched by an estimated 700 million people. That’s a large percentage of the world’s entire population!
