MUMMIES IN EGYPT

King Tut is the nickname of a male king in ancient Egypt. His real name was King Tutankhamen. King Tut was only a king for about 9 years but he is one of the most famous kings who lived in ancient Egypt.

Tutankhamen was nine years old when he became the king and he was a teenager when he died. His people did not have to build a big tomb for him so they quickly finished a tiny tomb. Grave robbers most probably did not discover the tomb because it was very small. It was in 1922 that an archeologist Howard Carter entered Tut’s tomb. He found a bag of gold rings on the floor and there was still a gold mask on King Tut’s face. The tomb was full of treasures, for example lamps and miniature ships.

In ancient Egypt, people thought that when they died they would start a new life. They made mummies of the dead people and wanted them to feel at home. That is why they painted their tombs with happy memories and put food and drink and some furniture in their graves. Some rich people had gold jewelry in their tomb.

Mummies are amazing to many people because they describe life in ancient Egypt. People first found mummies in 1798 and many of these mummies were taken to other countries. Today, Egypt has laws that protect the mummies.

Ancient Egypt is still a mystery to be solved. People are so interested in the details of it. They make films and write books about this popular topic. Also, the secret behind this Egyptian tradition of making mummies hasn’t been found out. Archaeologists who study ancient Egypt continue to learn more about this fascinating ancient country.
