My Dream Home

My Dream Home

I was asked to write about my dream home but this is a very difficult task for me actually. The problem is that I have at least two different ideas. I spent most of my childhood in the countryside, and most of my adult life in cities. So I would like to have a home in the city as well as a home in the country.

My country home would be a thatched cottage. It would have a thatched roof, five bedrooms, a large, open kitchen, a large but cosy living room, a dining room, a study, two bathrooms upstairs and a bathroom downstairs. There would also be a conservatory at the back of the house, looking out to the garden. The weather in England is often not sunny enough to sit out so if there is a conservatory, we can sit in the warmth but still be surrounded by beauty. The garden would be big and wild, with lots of different kinds of flowers and trees. I’d like to have fruit trees, too.

At the front of the house, there would be roses, wisteria and other flowering plants growing up the front of the house and in the garden. The cottage would be painted white and it would be very beautiful.

On the other hand, I would also love to have a city home so I can escape to some chaos every so often. I would love to have a houseboat in the city. The old kinds are small and quite uncomfortable but these days, people are totally emptying out the old ones and redesigning them. The new designs mean that they are modern, comfortable, have everything you need and are also stylish. They aren’t very big still, but there is more space than in the old-style ones. I would keep the design of this home simple, clean and functional.
