My first Money Box

My first Money Box

My first money box was a tiny little butter-yellow house with a grassy green roof. On the roof was a sunshine-yellow woodpecker. On the woodpecker, there was a green beak. In this beak was an inviting slot. In the slot carefully went your precious money. The yellow woodpecker violently pecked the chimney on the green roof of the yellow house and the money slowly rolled down the beak, down the chimney into the house. Eeeeeeewwwww clunk. Funny thing is, I can’t remember how I got the money out!

My next money box was a tiny plastic one with a cute little trick drawer. You gently opened the drawer, you happily put your money in it, you closed the drawer and when you excitedly pulled the drawer out – your precious money had disappeared – the money had gone!

When my friends came over, I knowingly said, ‘Put your money in the drawer, close the drawer, pull the drawer out and your money’s gone. It’s in the box. Magic.’ ‘How does it work?’ they would say laughing happily. ‘I’m not going to tell you!’ I would reply turning away from them. ‘Well, I’m not going to put my money in it then!’ ‘Ok, then you won’t see it work then, will you?’

‘All right, I suppose one coin won’t hurt!’ The coins went in the drawer, out came the drawer. ‘See the money has gone!’ I knew what was coming next... ‘How do I get it back?’ ‘Oh, that’s a secret!’ Very soon the money box was full and I proudly went off to the corner store with my pockets full like frogs’ cheeks.
