My Great-grandfather Paul

My Great-grandfather Paul

My great-grandfather Paul is my favourite person to visit.  He has so many interesting stories to tell.
He was born in 1927 in Saint Pierre, Martinique.  Martinique is an island in the East Caribbean.
There is a large volcano there, called Mt. Pelée.
In 1902, the volcano erupted and destroyed St. Pierre. 30,000 people died.

When he was a young boy, he was very independent and brave.  Paul loved to explore the old ruins of St. Pierre.
People said ghosts haunted them.  People also said there was a treasure in the old houses.
He wanted to see if it was true.

He went to the north side of the island.  He went into the jungle and found the old houses.
He explored them but couldn’t find anything.  Then, a loud scream came from behind him!
He panicked and ran.  He hid in an old cellar under the house.  A long time passed.
When he came out, something glistened in the setting sun.  He looked and found a beautiful,
old gold necklace.

When he picked up the necklace, something screamed his name!  He jumped and ran as fast as he could.
He found the treasure that day, but the ghosts also found him.  He never went back to the ruins.
