My Mum the Technophobe

My Mum the Technophobe

My mum got a smartphone recently. She really wanted one, so we went to a shop and bought one last week. The problem is that she doesn’t know how to use it! She turns the volume down by accident. Sometimes when we are talking, she turns the volume down mid-call so she can’t hear anything I am saying. The other day, her boiler broke. I asked her to send me a picture so I could help her. But instead, she sent a picture of her hand! Also, there are apps on her home screen which she somehow manages to delete nearly every day, and can’t work out how to get them back. Tonight, she put her phone on flight mode by mistake. This meant that she couldn’t receive any calls, couldn’t send any messages and couldn’t receive any messages either.

Another problem we often have is with her passwords. For some reason, she changes them a lot and can’t remember the new ones. I tell her to write them down, which she does, but she writes them on little scraps of paper which get lost. This is also a problem when she is using the internet on her computer. It takes a long time to change them all again. The process can be long and complicated. Sometimes, I think that it would be better if we went back to the times when we didn’t have smartphones, laptops and loads of different passwords. Then, I get a message from a friend living in another country, showing me pictures of her new baby, and I change my mind again!
