Myths and Rituals from the Past
In the past, people believed in very different things. For example, some people believed that the Earth was flat. Others believed that gods and goddesses controlled nature.
Vikings believed in stories of gods and goddesses. For example, they believed in a god called Odin. He was the god of wisdom, poetry, death and magic.
The Romans didn’t have their own myths. Instead, they had rituals for gods that they copied from other people, like the Greeks. That means, they did things regularly for religious reasons. For example, they killed white animals for the gods of the upper world and black animals for the gods of the underworld. They also had festivals. During the festivals, people closed their stores and celebrated.
