National Mincemeat Pie Day

National Mincemeat Pie Day is a special day in England celebrated on October 26th of each year. The celebration of the day has no special reason as it is a food feast. It is the perfect day to try out this sweet pie if you haven’t eaten it before.

Mincemeat Pie Recipe

Ingredients

o   2 apples, peeled, cored and quartered

o   1 cup of  golden raisins

o   1 cup of dark brown sugar

o   ½ cupof  dried figs,

o   ¼ cup of chopped dried cherries

o   1 orange, zested and juiced

o   1 lemon, zested and juiced

o   Cinnamon, ginger

o   Milfoil dough

Place all of the ingredients except the milfoil dough into the bowl of a food processor and pulse 8 to 10 times. Place in a bowl and store in the refrigerator for at least 3 days before using.

Cut small pieces of the dough for the strips on the top of the pie. Place the rest of the dough on a tray and spread the fruit mix on it. Place the strips on top as done in the picture. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 220C for 40 minutes.
