NATIVE AMERICANS
My name is Daisy and I want to be an archaeologist. Archaeologists learn about the past by studying the things people made and left behind. I am very interested in Native American cultures. They used clay to make pottery, jewelry, flutes, houses and even medicine! You can rub some types of clay on your skin if you get a bee sting, rash or sunburn. The next day your problem will be gone! Some Native Americans hunted buffalo for food, but they used every part of the animal. They made clothing, bags, bows, rope and even glue from buffalo. I read a book about the clothing they wore, and I was surprised to learn that soldiers wore armor made of wood! They fought using bows and arrows, not guns or swords, so wooden armor was enough to protect them. The Native Americans were really smart people. They knew how to use the things around them and to respect nature. When I become an archaeologist, I want to learn all about the Native Americans!
