Neanderthals

Neanderthals

More than 50,000 years ago, there was another kind of humans on Earth. Today we call them ‘Neanderthals’. They lived in Europe and parts of Asia and looked like modern humans. They had shorter legs but bigger bodies.

Neanderthals could make stone tools and use fire. They hunted animals for food. They could live in very cold weather because they used fur as clothes.

Neanderthals created simple art. They left their handprints on the walls of caves. One of these caves is in Spain. The handprints there are 64,000 years old.
