Neil Armstrong
Neil Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930, in Ohio. Neil Armstrong could fly a plane before he could drive a car! He got his student flight certificate on his 16th birthday. After graduating from college, Armstrong became a test pilot. He flew more than 200 different types of aircraft during his career. Armstrong became an astronaut of Nasa in 1962. The Gemini 8 was his first trip into space. Armstrong made history on July 20, 1969, by becoming the first man to walk on the moon. This was an exciting time for the entire country. As he said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” He arrived back to earth on July 24, 1969. He kept working with NASA and also, worked as a professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Cincinnati. Armstrong died of complications from the operation he had, at age 82.
