New Adventures of Lara Croft: The Treasure Hunter
Lara and Tim were searching for the map that would lead them to the lost treasure of an ancient city. They were very close…
‘Hey, Lara, come over here. I’ve found something,’ said Tim suddenly. ‘Look, there’s a tiny piece of paper poking out from under that rock. I think the map is hidden there. We need help to dig it out from under the rock though. How are we going to dig it out without a spade?’
‘There is no need for a spade,’ said Lara, pulling her mobile phone out of her back pocket.
‘I am going to call Jason for help.’ There was no signal in the depths of the dark cave.
Lara thought for a minute, feeling a little frustrated, but then she spotted something on the ground near Tim’s feet.
‘Wait a minute, we can use this metal pole to lever the rock and roll it out of the way. Come on help me out, the rock is very heavy. It will take both of us to move it.’
Lara and Tim worked together to move the rock, finally revealing the treasure map. It was dusty but undamaged. ‘Yes, we’ve got it,’ said Tim. ‘What does it say, Lara? Are there any clues to help us find the treasure?’
Lara peered at the map. ‘Wait, Tim, I’m going to read it when we get to the camp.
I can’t see it clearly in this gloomy cave. I need a torch.’
Later that night, back at their camp, Lara finds a torch and starts reading the clues on the back of the treasure map:
First, look at this map carefully. Draw a straight line from the North Pole to the South Pole. Secondly, draw a line through the equator. Thirdly, find the biggest continent on this map. It must be in the southern hemisphere and not in the northern hemisphere. Then, you must find the highest mountain range, which must also be close to the coast. Finally, look at the temple of the Smiling King. The treasure is under the statue of the Grinning Prince in the centre of the temple grounds.
Tim and Lara followed these instructions carefully. When they finished, Lara looked at Tim with a glint of excitement in her eyes. ‘Let’s go, Tim. I’m going to find the treasure this time.’
