NO MORE SELFIES
Everyone likes to take photos while on holiday so that they can remember those happy moments afterwards. Nowadays instead of asking a stranger to take a photo people prefer using selfie sticks. A selfie stick is simply a pole , which is attached to smartphones and cameras so that people can take photos of themselves from beyond an arm’s reach. (1) ....................... There are cheaper or more expensive ones depending on your choices. Lately, most museums and some tourist locations banned selfie sticks as they can hit other people and cause damage. Here are some places that banned the use of selfie sticks:
FRANCE The palace of Versailles was the first museum in France to ban the use of selfie sticks. The Louvre Museum is still not sure about banning them. (2) ....................... Paris’s Musee d’Orsay already bans all photography inside the building.
ITALY Rome’s Colosseum banned selfie sticks in 2015 because of security reasons. They say that selfie sticks are dangerous both for the objects inside and for the 16,000 daily visitors to the 2,000-year-old monument . “The twirling around of hundreds of sticks can bec ome very dangerous,” Colosseum spokesman Christiano Brughit ta said. (3) ....................... Police found them carving their names into the Colosseum’s wall before taking a photo with a selfie stick.
THE UNITED STATES The Smithsonian museums in Washington banned selfie sticks over a year ago. Cameras and pictures are still allowed, but selfie sticks and tripods are not. Smithsonian officials say this is done to protect visitors and museum objects. Other U.S. museums that ban selfie sticks include the Art Institute of Chicago, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and New York’s Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
BRITAIN Besides the National Gallery, some English soccer teams have banned the selfie stick from their stadiums. The National Portrait Gallery says the sticks are allowed but anyone who disturbs another visitor will be warned by the museum. (4) ....................... Bill Doig said that people don’t even look at the objects or paintings anymore because they are busy taking selfies. “If you go into an exhibition , it means that you want to see what is on show and don’t take photographs of yourself.” said Bill.
BRAZIL Football stadiums in the South American country have banned selfie sticks. (5) ....................... Selfie sticks were also banned from Brazil’s carnival parades in Rio de Janeiro
