No Need to be Afraid

No Need to be Afraid

Mr James Henderson, a successful businessman who travels often, suffers from claustrophobia and refuses to enter an airplane to fly to different parts of the world.

This means he spends far too much time, and money, traveling from one place to another. Luckily for him, we now live in an era where we don’t have to be physically present to do business around the world.

If you have claustrophobia, it means you have an intense fear of confined or enclosed spaces, such as lifts and planes. Going into an enclosed space like this can be an extremely frightening experience.

Looking for emergency exits when you enter unfamiliar places, staying near doors so you can escape quickly if you need to, or being particularly disturbed by closed-up spaces such as a room without a window or one that has all the doors shut, are just some of the tell-tale signs of claustrophobia.

Unfortunately, we still haven’t found a cure for claustrophobia. However, it is possible to take control of the situation by having treatment which can help sufferers control their fear. Some of the treatment for claustrophobia includes behaviour therapy, exposure therapy, drugs, or a combination of these treatments.

However, it is still a difficult process to overcome this phobia. A sufferer needs to believe that they can overcome the fear – if they think it is something they will have to live with forever, then the battle is already lost. To overcome this phobia you have to approach it in an energetic and systematic manner and be willing to put in a lot of hard work. Don’t forget – claustrophobia is something you have learned at some stage in your life, and whatever is learned can also be unlearned!
