No Privacy

Everybody talks about privacy, but in reality we don’t have any privacy at all. A documentary named “Terms and Conditions May Apply” reveals the fact that people who use social media or the Internet can’t have privacy.

Today, the Internet is an essential part of our lives. A lot of people are using Facebook, Twitter, Google and smart phones. We read online, buy things online, attend webinars and so on. Every time we connect to the Internet we are tracked without being informed.

People update their status, post photos on Facebook and we learn things about them even though we aren’t friends with them. The same thing applies for Instagram, Twitter etc.

There’s also a technique named ‘Canvas fingerprinting’ which tracks the activities of people on a website. This technique is used by more than 5,600 websites. When we load a page, technical mechanisms get all the necessary information to display the page we want. However, they also send a small amount of cookies (a small piece of data that a server sends to the user's web browser, that may store it and send it back together with the next request to the same server) which is stored on the browser of our computer.

We have lost our privacy and it’s impossible to get it back. When we are asked to give our personal information for a reason, we think twice and don’t want to give it, but how many of us realize that we’re doing it many times during the day? If we want privacy, we need to stop using the Internet, social media and smart phones. Even not using them isn’t a solution. Think about information about your health that is stored by hospitals or your doctor.
