Notorious Bank Heists
This case is called the Agriculture Bank Heist, in which a banker stole a few hundred thousand from his bank first. He intended to buy hundreds of lottery tickets with the money and increase his chances of winning it. This would help him replace the money he had taken from the bank. Surprisingly, his trick worked out the first time. As a result, he was able to replace the money without anyone noticing. However, his second and third tries were futile, which led him to lose about $7 million in lottery tickets. He was arrested and thrown in jail along with his accomplice.
In an interesting case, con men took artworks from the Gardner Museum in Boston. A few men who were dressed as Boston police officers gained entry to the museum, which was against museum rules, after hours in 1990. They disarmed and subdued the guards, tied them up and immediately headed for the paintings. It remains one of the most mysterious crimes in history because no one has admitted to the crime yet. The frames where the art pieces were still sit empty on the wall.
This case is the only unsolved air piracy raid in history. A man whom the media dubbed ‘D.B. Cooper’ after he hijacked a Boeing 747 extorted $200,000 in ransom and then jumped out of the plane with bags full of money. Cooper calmly and politely gave the crew very specific instructions about air speed, angle of the wings, etc. while tying something to his waist. A few minutes later, the crew realized that he was gone. Even though a lot of the money was recovered later, the police still haven’t found Cooper.
