ON A TRIP

ON A TRIP

My name is Brian and I am really fond of travelling. When I was about six years old, I had a small backpack and I took it with me wherever I went. I always wanted to have my things with me, like my drawing notebook, my pencils, my toys and the compass my dad gave me as a gift. My mom always said, ‘He was born to be a traveller’.

I’m an architect now. I’m 34 years old, but I still look forward to having the time and opportunity to travel. Last week, my friends told me that they planned a camping trip to a small town near the lake. They asked me, ‘Would you like to join us?’ Well, I didn’t hesitate at all! I packed my backpack, took my tent, and I was there at the train station long before they arrived. I was so excited. We got on the train and went to the town. It was amazing! The moment I got off the train and saw the view, I began to take photos. We put up our tents and rested for a while. Then we started to walk around the town. The people were very friendly and they offered us some local food. When we came back to our camping site, we were shocked! The tents were not there! We immediately called the police. They came in a very short time and asked us a lot of questions. They said, ‘This is a safe town. We don’t understand why this happened’.

We waited for a couple of hours and then the police came back with two very young boys, aged 11. They said, ‘These are the ones who stole your tents’. We were all surprised to see such young kids were thieves. They said, ‘We didn’t want to steal them. We just wanted to try them. We want to camp too’.

We talked with them and realized that they were not thieves. They did it because camping was interesting to them. They were sorry for the trouble they caused and promised not to do it again. My friends and I offered to let them stay with us if they really wanted to experience camping. They were really happy. We stayed together for a night, and the next day, we gave them our tents as gifts.
