Abraham Lincoln was an American lawyer and the 16th President of the United States.
He was born on 12th February 1809. He was President from 1861 until his death in 1865.
He was President during a very difficult time in US history. At that time, there
was war in parts of the United States.
Today the war is called the American Civil War.
A lot of people say that Lincoln was one of the best Presidents of the United States.
He was open and honest with people. His nickname was ‘Honest Abe’.

Tenzing Norgay from Nepal and Sir Edmund Hillary from New Zealand were the first people on top of Mount Everest.
It was
1953. At that time, Norgay was 39 years old and Hillary was 34. After that they were famous.
Their pictures were in books,
magazines, newspapers and on stamps.
