OUR IINTEREST IIN SPACE

1 Our Earth is a small world in the whole universe. We understood this only a few hundred years ago. As we studied space more and more, we realised the universe was larger and deeper than we thought. We sent humans to the Moon, we discovered amazing things in space, and today our machines are active both in space and on other planets.

2 We’ve got rovers on Mars. We control them like cars in video games. They ‘walk’ around the planet and send information back to us on Earth. Mars is a smaller planet than Earth, and it is farther from the Sun. Some scientists think humans will start living on Mars in the late 21st century.

3 There are satellites around our planet and other planets. These machines make maps, record information about the weather and help us study our planet and other planets.

4 We’ve also got space telescopes. They help us see very deep into space – much deeper than the telescopes we have on Earth.
