Our lives without computers

Our lives without computers

Imagine this: There is no electricity in the world for a week. What happens? You want to send a message to a friend in another city. You write your letter on a piece of paper, put it in an envelope and then post it. Your friend gets the letter after 3 days and writes back to you. You get your friend’s letter after 3 days. With no electricity, there are no phones, computers or Internet, and our world is a completely different place.

Computers make our lives easier. We send messages, post pictures and videos, print documents, watch videos online and so on. Without computers or the Internet, you can’t download films any more. You have to go to the cinema to watch a film. But how can you watch films there? There is no electricity there! You want to write your homework at night. Without a computer, you sit in your room and write by hand on piece of paper. But how can you write when you can’t see? There is no electricity.

Your smartphones are small computers. Without your smartphone, you can’t call your family or friends. Then you go out to call from a phone booth on the street. But how? There is no electricity! You are travelling, and you want to find your location on the map. Without a smartphone and GPS, you need a paper map. You find your location on the map yourself, and we know that it isn’t easy.

Our lives are easy with computers. Computers and the Internet work with electricity. So, sometimes I worry and think, ‘Without electricity, how can we do all the things we do today?’
