Our School is a Big Happy Family
Have you ever wondered how you can tell the world how special your school is?! Well, the students and teachers from the Friends’ School in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, decided the best way was to make a ‘lip dub’ video. The result was an overnight Internet hit!

When PE teacher, Stephen Robinson, decided to make the video, the students were very excited. They made an 11-minute video to show the story of a girl’s first day at their school; we see the girl arriving at the school, the door opening, and then the music begins. The students chose the theme-music from the American TV programme Friends. At their school, friends are important.

The first school lip dub was made in Germany. It is basically a kind of music video where a group of people sing and dance and they are filmed. Then the original song is added to the video so you can’t hear the singing of the people performing in the video. There are now loads of school lip dub videos on internet sites such as YouTube.

The whole school got involved in making the lip dub with over 1,000 students and teachers joining in. The video was made with a digital camcorder, a tripod, and a computer. All the ideas were written on big boards and everyone decided which places in the school should be shown. The students were filmed in classrooms, the science lab and the gym. The lip dub also included Irish dancing, gymnastics and rock climbing as well as the cooks from the school canteen singing and dancing. Over 65,000 people watched the video in the first 48 hours.

They end the lip dub at the sports field with students and teachers dancing, running, singing and having fun. Everyone really enjoyed every minute of making the video. Many students said it was a fantastic and an amazing experience. One thing we certainly can’t doubt is how much they all love their school.
