Pacific Ring of Fire
According to the World Risk Report, the top five most dangerous countries for natural disasters are:
Vanuatu, Tonga, the Philippines, Guatemala, and Bangladesh.
Most countries on the list are affected by the Pacific Ring of Fire.
The Pacific Ring of Fire is a horseshoe-shaped area that is 40,000 kilometres long.
Many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions happen. These cause tsunamis as well.
Also, lots of typhoons (hurricanes in the Pacific) happen here.
These countries get storms, floods, earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, wildfires and landslides.
The number one country on the list, Vanuatu, is a small island in the Pacific Rim. 250,000 people live there.
Due to rising sea levels and climate change, they are the most vulnerable.
The Philippines suffer from hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and tsunamis.
Bangladesh is not on the Pacific Ring of Fireline. However, the country is on sea-level.
Due to climate change and rising sea levels, Bangladesh is easily affected by tsunamis.
Another reason these countries are easily affected is that their governments respond slowly to natural disasters.
These governments have to create better plans to deal with natural disasters.
