Pari’s Moving Library Project
1 When people ask me how I came up with this idea,
I talk about my fascination with cartoons and short clips about folding furniture to save space.
I thought to myself, ‘Why not do that with a library?’
2 You know, there is a lot of poverty in my region, and most people are farmers.
Even when children finish their school, they go back to farming.
I wanted them to learn more about the world beyond farming, and of course,
I wanted them to learn about modern agriculture as well.
3 We’ve taken the library to five different villages in the past year.
People have had the chance to sit and read books,
and those who weren’t literate decided to learn reading and writing.
4 We charge a small amount of money for memberships, and we receive donations as well.
So, we buy about 10% of the books in our library and leave them in the village for people to read.
5 My plan is to take this library to at least 10 more places in the next two years and revisit the villages which we have visited before. I want to encourage more people to start projects like this.
