PAUL
Paul is from Alice Springs in Australia. He lives on a farm with his family and some other families. There is a hospital next door, and some of Paul’s family are there.
Paul wakes up at 5 pm every afternoon. After breakfast, he usually goes back to bed for a bit until his mother wakes him up. Twice a week a doctor comes to check him. The doctor has to check Paul’s leg because Paul was hurt in an accident. He is getting better now. Later in the day, Paul plays with his friends, he likes jumping and fighting. After playing, he eats grass and leaves that he finds. Does that sound strange to you?
Paul is a baby kangaroo. He came to the farm with his mother after they were hurt. A farmer rescued them. The doctors in the kangaroo hospital cared for them.
There are about 40 kangaroos on the farm at the moment. The farmer and his family care for them and feed them. Some kangaroos need to see a doctor every day. It’s hard work looking after them, and it costs a lot of money. The farmer needs to buy lots of food and medicine.
When Paul is better, he and his mother are going to leave the farm and return to their lives.
