PENFRIENDS

PENFRIENDS

When I was in school, our French teacher gave us all penfriends from France. We used to write to each other every week. Mine was called Marie. We were the same age and liked the same things. It was quite hard to write letters in French, but it really helped me improve quickly. We used to talk about all sorts of things; music, books, films, our schools, our best friends, boys we liked.

After six months of writing to each other, our teacher told us that our penfriends would be coming to visit us for a week. They would be staying with us! I was really lucky because I got on with Marie, but some of my friends didn’t get on with theirs so they had a really difficult week. Also, some of my friends didn’t speak French very well and their penfriends couldn’t speak English either. They had a really hard time getting on!

Then, at the end of the school year, our French teacher took us to France. We stayed with our penfriends, in their homes this time. It was great, but I was so nervous and shy around her family, I could hardly say a word to them. While we were there, we visited lots of places and did lots of sightseeing. We spent lots of time with our penfriends and they showed us around their city, looked after us really well and even gave us a party on our last evening there!
