Penguins

Antarctica is a cool place just like its residents: penguins. There are six types of penguins that live there: emperors, adelie, chinstrap, macaroni, king and gentoo.

Emperor penguins are very popular among the visitors. They are 115 cm tall. They eat squids and fish. They live in the Ross Sea and Weddell. They give birth in winter. Baby chicks are born at the end of July but they meet the sea in January. They stay close to each other when it is cold. This helps them to keep warm. They can stay under the water for twenty minutes. Adelie penguins are 71 cm tall and their favourite food is krill and fish. The name comes from a French explorer. They have got white rings around their eyes. There are 2.5 million pairs of Adelie penguins in Antarctica.
