PEOPLE AND SPORTS
What is a sport?
A sport is a physical activity that people do for fun and a way to compete with others. People have enjoyed sports for thousands of years. Every sport has a set of rules that the players follow. They try to be the winner following the rules.
One for all
In some sports, one person competes against other individuals. Examples of these sports include boxing, wrestling, gymnastics, figure skating, diving, long jumping, and horseback riding. In these kinds of sports, you watch two people only. One person is the winner, the other is the loser. Sometimes, the score can be the same. Then the players are ‘even’.
One-on-one games
In team sports, a group of people plays against another group or team. A team may have as few as two members, or it may have many members. A doubles team in tennis has two players. Five players make up a basketball team. Football is another example of a team sport. Players support other players in a team. When a player makes a mistake, their teammates support and help them.
