Pink Floyd
..................Pink Floyd’s concept rock album “The Wall” is a musical milestone in music history since it is loaded with many meanings. Did you think that it was an ordinary album or a film? Then you are mistaken because it symbolizes many things. When it was first released in 1979, most people loved the music but they also loved the lyrics.
..................When you listen to the lyrics carefully, you can see that it’s about alienation which means not being a part of the community as a result of not interacting with other members of society. Also, it underlines the importance of affecting others with what you do.
..................As a kid, Pink had very difficult times: a fatherless childhood, an overprotective mother and an unreliable education system. Therefore, Pink builds a “mental” wall between himself and the rest of the world. Whenever Pink experiences pain, he adds another brick in his ever-growing wall. As his wall grows, he closes himself from the rest of the world and becomes an alien in his own society.
..................Any problem a person faces or any pain he experiences is symbolized by a brick. The hammer, on the other hand symbolizes the authoritarian power that shapes society. The worm is an illustration of a human’s end as a result of physical, mental and emotional experiences.
...................In every “The Wall” show, Pink Floyd does some research about the country they will be performing in and asks people who to include in the show. On the wall, they reflect images of significant people who were killed in that country. Therefore, during Pink Floyd’s last concert in İstanbul, images of many Turkish heroes were included.
