Plant-Eating Giants
A stegosaurus was a plant eater. It lived in today’s Europe, America, Madagascar, Africa and China. It was big and slow, and because of that, it used its powerful tail for defence. It had spikes at the end of its tail, and when it was in danger, it thrashed its tail about wildly. It was big - nine metres long - and weighed 30 tons.
Brachiosaurus was a plant eater, too. It had a very long neck that helped it to eat the leaves at the top of the trees. Its front legs were longer than its back legs. It lived in Africa, Colorado, Europe, North America, Portugal and Tanzania. It was 25 metres long and weighed 80 tons.
Diplodocus was another plant eater. It was 27 metres tall. It weighed about 12 tons and had a very long neck - even longer than the Brachiosaurus. Diplodocus had very powerful back legs! Its body was balanced by a long heavy tail - often used for protection. It ate trees, bushes, ginkgoes and ferns. It lived in North America.
