Popular musical instruments throughout history
Throughout history different musical instruments have become more popular, often because a type of music was more popular during that period. Some musical instruments have remained popular, no matter what type of music people have preferred.
The piano was invented in 1700. With classical music becoming more and more popular among people, the piano was used more often because of its wide range. It became the central instrument in lots of other types of music, such as jazz, gospel and country.
Since its invention in 1931, the electric guitar has played a great role in creating and changing lots of music genres. Without this revolutionary instrument, musical masterpieces in jazz, blues, rock, heavy metal and even pop would not be possible. The electric guitar became one of the most popular instruments in the 1970s and 1980s because of the rise of rock and roll.
The electronic keyboard change the music forever. After Robert Moog and his company made the first commercially successful synthesizer keyboard, musicians slowly started to use this instrument in their songs. This was because this instrument was easy to carry and could produce sounds of different instruments, such as the harp, violin and the piano. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, electronic music became very popular thanks to affordable synthesizers. Now the electronic keyboard is an important part of pop, hip hop and dance genres.
