PYRAMIDS IN EGYPT
The pyramids are the stone tombs of Egypt’s kings. They are not only mysterious but also full of secrets. Pyramids give us ideas about what life was like in ancient Egypt. The Egyptians mummified their king’s body because they believed that they could live forever in this way. They put the king’s dead body and his things into the tombs (pyramids). They built the pyramids on the western side of the Nile River just into the dry desert because it was easy to carry the big blocks by boat. The Great Pyramid is the largest and most famous of the pyramids. Egyptians built it for Pharaoh Khuf. It is over 140 metres high and it took 20 years to build. The Sphinx stands in front of all the pyramids in Giza. It has the body of a lion and the head of a pharaoh , the king of Egypt. Ancient Egyptians painted the walls of the pyramids with scenes of the dead person’s life and the objects he used so by looking at the pictures and objects we have a chance to understand a lot more about life in ancient Egypt.
