WHAT ARE RAINFORESTS?     

Rainforests are forests with tall trees. The weather in a rainforest is always warm and rainy. Rainforests are located in Africa, Asia, Australia, and Central and South America. The largest rainforest in the world is the Amazon Rainforest.

 

WHERE ARE RAINFORESTS LOCATED? 

Rainforests are in the tropics, close to the Equator. This is called the tropical zone.  The sun in the tropical zone is very strong all year long. This keeps the climate warm throughout the year. Many countries have tropical forests. The countries with the largest areas of tropical forest are:

Brazil, Congo, Peru, Indonesia, Colombia

 

WHY ARE RAINFORESTS IMPORTANT?    

Rainforests are home to animals and plants. Rainforests also play a very important part in our everyday lives, because they produce oxygen for living things. They are also a source of food and medicines.
