The colossal squid has the largest eye of all animals. Its eyes are as big as a football. The colossal squid isn’t a small creature. An adult colossal squid is about 14 metres long and weighs about 500 kilogrammes. The colossal squid is so big that it can kill a big whale with the sharp hooks on its arms. Its life is short, however. The colossal squid lives for about 2 years.
When we talk about the largest animals, everybody thinks about dinosaurs. Dinosaurs were big, but they don’t have the record for the largest animal. The blue whale is the largest and heaviest animal to ever exist on our planet. An adult blue whale weighs about 140,000 kilogrammes, is about 30 metres long and lives for about 100 years. That’s about 23 times heavier than an elephant and 2.5 times longer than a typical school bus.
The lion’s mane jellyfish lives for about 12 months, but in this short time, it grows to a very big size. The largest lion’s mane jellyfish was about 40 metres long and weighed about 1,000 kilogrammes. Its long tentacles are poisonous and dangerous. They can hurt a lot if they touch your body.
