RECYCLING FOR THE WORLD AND FOR MONEY

Many people recycle for different reasons. The main reason is usually to protect the environment. When we recycle, we produce less waste. It is easier to recycle because there are many recycling bins in cities now. Some people recycle for another reason. They recycle because they want to earn more money.

The price of metal is going up every day. Life and earning money is getting more difficult for people. Waste metal is very valuable these days so people collect metal and recycle them to earn some money. There is a big rise in metal prices. A few years ago a kilo of brass was $2. Now it is $3. Metal cans were about 60 cents a kilo but now it is 160 cents a kilo. Seven years ago a ton of steel was $40 but now it is $200 a ton.

Empire Recycling is a recycling company. The owner is David Fitzsimmons. He is also the owner of Fitzsimmons Metal Company. He says in the past only about 150 customers came every day but now he has about 300 customers every day. He says people started recycling metal because they can make money from it. They collect the metal in their house, they collect metal cans. Some people drive around their neighbourhood and collect metal cans from the bins to make money.

David Trombley recycles metal too. He says he earns about $150 dollar every week from recycling metal. It makes about $600 a month. He uses that money to pay for food, fuel, rent and everything else.
