RESCUED! BUT NOT BY A PERSON
Jennifer Jolie is a 21-year old college student in the USA. Last month she decided to go on a three-day hike in the mountains in Alaska. While hiking, she fell and tumbled nearly 90 meters down a snowy slope. She even hit a rock on her way down. She was there at the bottom of the slope for about two hours when suddenly a husky came by her. Jennifer said she was very surprised to see it. It was very friendly and it was obvious that the animal wanted to help her. “I first thought where its owner might be,” said Jennifer. When she checked she saw that it had a collar. On the collar it said that it was a guide dog. Jennifer understood why the dog didn’t leave her; it was ready to take her back safely to the trail. The husky’s owner said it never had a training on how to help hikers. “The dog leaves for some days and it always comes back,” he says. The dog has helped hikers before. Once it even brought hikers, who were lost, to their house where the owner hosted them for a day.
Jennifer said that the husky showed her the way back. As she slid down for about 90 meters, she was far away from her original trail. Jennifer had a few injuries but nothing very serious. The dog led her back to the original trail, camped with her overnight and even stayed with her while she was passing the river. While crossing the river Jennifer dived into the freezing cold water but unfortunately the current was too strong. Seeing that Jennifer is having difficulty the husky jumped in and grabbed her from her arm. By the help of the husky pulling her and trying to swim, finally they managed to cross the river. “I never expected to have such a difficult hike. I don’t know how I would get back without the help of this brave husky,” she said. The officials keep warning hikers that they shouldn’t use trails that they don’t know, especially when the weather conditions are more difficult. Even experienced hikers have problems. Jennifer was lucky that the husky found her but not everybody can be as lucky as her.
