The tale of Robin Hood is one of the most famous legends of all time. The question is, is this medieval adventure story based on reality? Was Robin Hood a hero? In fact, was Robin Hood real? 

That question has different answers. There are numerous stories about this character. He is known as Robin Hood but people call him by various names. 1) ....

According to one of those stories, there was a man who lived in the Middle Ages and was against England’s Norman rulers. He was a rebel and he didn’t accept the Norman kings and Norman barons. According to the famous legend which we all know, he simply takes the money from the rich and gives it to the poor. The reality based on this story is he gets the money from the wealthy Normans and gives it to poor Anglo Saxons. 2) ....

Another story claims that his real name was “Robert Hod” and he was not an Anglo Saxon nobleman, but a common fugitive. He wasn’t fighting against Normans but his personal enemies, especially against the Sheriff of Nottingham. 

Even his hometown or the time he existed in are unknown. He is said to have lived in Yorkshire, Sherwood Forest, near Nottingham. There is a huge old tree in that forest which is said to be Robin Hood’s tree.

Also unclear is the period in which he lived. There is no clear indication or any evidence. However, many historians believe that Robin lived between 1100 and 1400, if he lived at all. 3) ....

Fact or fiction, real or not, there must be a character who inspired the stories and legends of Robin Hood. A man, back in the past lived somewhere, existed some time and supplied the inspiration for this worldwide famous character. What do you think?
