Robot Cities

Robot Cities

In most parts of the world, governments have been trying to change cities into better urban areas.
While doing so, they see automation
as the key to be ready for the new world.
Many cities are actually
becoming demo areas to do the experiments for a better world.
These
experiments are mostly done by national or local governments with the help of robots in social spaces.
Using the cities as test beds, they
are getting better and faster results on whether we are ready,
or not
for a bigger change. In these experiments, robots are used mostly for practical purposes to facilitate daily life.
Some of them have a very
symbolic role such as demonstrating good city governance.
“Whether through autonomous cars, automated pharmacists, service robots in local stores,
or autonomous drones delivering
Dominos parcels, cities are being automated at a steady pace”,
said
Mateja Kovacic on “The Independent”.
There are a lot of large cities which already serve as test beds for autonomous cars,
drone deliveries, and automated monitoring
systems. Seoul, Tokyo, Shenzhen, Singapore,
Dubai, London, San
Francisco are some of those cities getting ready for a rapid change.
You may see a delivery robot in the streets of Seoul or a Dominos drone above Dubai skyline.
Automated vertical farms are also
becoming famous in these urban areas.
Every day there are new
applications from healthcare to restaurants that are replacing human power gradually.
So it is time to get used to having robots around and
making good use of them.
