Safe İnternet

Many people around the world now use the internet on a regular basis and we can even access it from the comfort of our homes! The 'net' in Internet stands for ‘network’. When two or more computers are connected, information can be shared and sent from one computer to another. We can now find so much information on the Internet. We use it to do research for school projects, to download our favourite songs, and to communicate with family and friends. We can access information on webpages that have been created by companies, organizations, and individuals. The Internet is similar to a giant notice board that the whole world can use! However, as anyone can post anything they want on the Internet, we have to be really careful. We have to use our best judgement as well as common sense.

We have to be sure that the information we are using is correct and true, especially when doing research! We also have to be very careful even when only emailing people. You should never give out any personal information to anyone you don't know, not even your name. If you've never met the person that you're communicating with online, you could be in dangerous territory and you should be extremely cautious!

In the same way as you can't believe all the information on every website out there, you also can't rely on what strangers you 'meet' on the Internet tell you either. They can easily make up things about themselves and lie about who they are!
