Rachel and Jeremy are two mountaineers.
In October 2003 they climbed Piz Badile at the border between Italy and Switzerland.
On their way down, suddenly the temperatures fell to -15°C and it started snowing heavily.
They were stuck, and they couldn’t move. Rachel thought that they were going to die.
During the first night, they tried to call the mountain rescue service, but they couldn’t.
Rachel finally sent a text message to a friend in London and asked for help.
Her friend quickly called emergency services. But there was one problem. The weather condition wasn’t good,
so the rescue team sent a text message to Rachel. They told her and Jeremy to wait for another night.
The text message read, ‘So sorry Rachel. We tried. Wind so strong. Have to wait till morning.
Take care. Be strong.’ It was a long and cold night. Rachel and Jeremy didn’t have any food left. They had only one peanut for dinner. The next day, the rescue team finally found and saved the couple.
Then they brought them to safety.
