SHOULD WE TEACH FIRST AID TO STUDENTS?
Whether first aid training should be mandatory in school curriculum or not has been a debatable topic in recent years. While some people believe that it must be taught as a school subject, others oppose the idea. There is no doubt that first aid training is useful and can help prepare students for emergencies in the future. Students should learn first aid and CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) from an early age.
First, the experts believe that students will benefit from this training when they need to respond to emergencies. Students who are able to apply the necessary skills confidently to handle emergencies can equip themselves better in life.
Another reason why first aid training should be compulsory is that from this training, students will develop a high level of confidence and the ability to adapt to different environments. In other words, students will feel more comfortable in different environments because this type of training not only develops focus but also the ability to think clearly under pressure. As a result, students can make important decisions quickly in stressful situations.
The most important reason, though, is that first aid training saves lives. Health staff claim that if more people knew first aid, they could prevent 140,000 deaths a year. Most people feel helpless because they do not know what to do when they are involved in an emergency situation, but this training will equip them with the tools to help. What is more, nothing else will give the same sense of satisfaction than saving a life.
On the other hand, some people believe that first aid training should not be added to the school curriculum because .................................................................................................................................... . However, they forget that simple first aid training can stop many minor injuries in schools.
Due to the reasons above, many health charities like The Red Cross are also taking action to influence governments and persuade schools to introduce the training.
