SLEEP FOR YOURSELF

SLEEP FOR YOURSELF

You may be surprised but sleeping is actually one of the most important parts of human health and fitness. People don’t think sleeping is very important and so it is often neglected as a key part of your body`s health. Why is sleep so important?

Sleep is actually a very active time for your body. It is not just about closing your eyes and waiting to wake up. Sleep has several stages. In the first couple stages, your mind stops worrying about what is happening around it and your body relaxes. Your heart rate, temperature, and breathing all go down as your body relaxes. As you fall more deeply asleep, your muscles relax and your cells start to rebuild. The body releases growth hormones in deep sleep so this process helps you to grow and build muscles. Your body repairs and re-energizes itself.

Next, you will fall into REM sleep. This is probably the most important part of your sleep, when you are dreaming. Your muscles turn off completely, but your brain is very active. This helps provide energy for the brain and you save energy for the next day. You usually drop into dream or REM sleep about every 90 minutes you are asleep. That’s why it is best when you sleep without any interruptions like getting up to go to the toilet.

In addition, sleep affects the hormones that control your mood, alertness, energy level, immune system and appetite. Getting the proper amount of sleep allows your body to work at its best. It also helps you to recover and feel better more quickly when you have an illness. Sometimes you can’t remember things or think in a good way because you are very tired and sleepless. How can you make good decisions and concentrate without getting proper sleep?

Sleep is a very productive time of the day, so make sure you’re getting enough of it! According to studies most young children need 10-12 hours of sleep. Babies and toddlers need even more! Teenagers should get between 8 and 9.5 hours of sleep. For adults it is usually less than this, but it also changes from one person to another. Just make sure sleep is very important and you get enough of it.
