Special days in the USA

Independence Day
This public holiday is the most important day in the history of the United States because on this day in 1776 the United States was born. Every year there are huge fireworks displays in lots of places around the country. There are actually tourists who travel to watch the beautiful 4th-of-July fireworks. Sometimes they last half an hour, and people make big bonfires in some areas.

April Fool’s Day
April 1st is not a public holiday in the US, but a lot of people take it seriously and follow the tradition. The tradition is to play tricks on people, tell small harmless lies just for fun. Some websites change their theme and sometimes celebrities give false news about their lives.

Halloween
This festival takes place on October 31st as soon as it gets dark. Children dress up in scary – and sometimes funny – costumes and walk around neighbourhoods asking for sweets. Adults wear costumes and go to Halloween parties to show off their costumes and have fun. Families get together and light a jack-o-lantern, an empty pumpkin that people carve out a face on and put a candle in.
