Spring Traditions Around the World

People celebrate the end of winter around the world. Each country has got its own traditions for celebrating. Let’s read.

Marzanna, POLAND

Polish people celebrate the first day of March because it is the end of winter. A marzanna is a doll. Polish people make a marzanna from straw and clothes. They decorate their marzanna and walk with it through the streets. Then, they throw it into the sea.

Hanami, JAPAN

Cherry blossom trees start blooming at the end of March, so Japanese people celebrate this. Hanami means “flower viewing”. Japanese people to the cherry trees and look at the flowers.

Holi, INDIA

Holi is an Indian tradition. Indians celebrate Holi at the end of February or the beginning of March. People take colourful powder and throw it at each other. Spring means colours, so they celebrate it with a colour fight.

Cimburijada, BOSNIA

Cimburijada is a cooked egg festival. Bosnians celebrate Cimburijada in the beginning of March. They bring lots of eggs and cook them in very big pots. People eat the scrambled eggs. They don’t pay money for this.
