STAYING SAFE DURING A HURRICANE

BEFORE
Be prepared to evacuate fast when necessary. Discuss what to do with the family members before the hurricane.
Buy some extra food and batteries. Don’t forget to protect windows with permanent storm shutters.
Get an insurance that covers the damage. If you have a pet, prepare a pet emergency kit.

DURING
Try to stay indoors unless it is an emergency. Avoid bridges, power lines, riverbanks and the beach.
Never use candles. Always have a flashlight on you. Don’t allow your kids to be around flood water.
Keep listening to the local radio. Avoid contact with the flood water.

AFTER
Let your family and friends know that you are safe. If you have evacuated your house,
do
not try to go back before the authorities announcement. Always stay alert for the excessive rainfall.
Continue listening to the local radio. Keep your family and your pets away from the flood water.
