STICK INSECT

STICK INSECT

A tree stands in a forest under a cloudy sky. Suddenly a twig is walking on the trunk. It has legs! The object isn’t actually a twig—it’s a stick insect. The stick-like insect protects itself from enemies with its shape. Some of the species spray to protect themselves from their enemies. Stick insects—also known as walking sticks— live in tropical forests all over the world. They are usually brown, green or black. Some look like small twigs. Some look like leaves. They’re also the world’s longest insects. They eat leaves. They are nocturnal, so they sleep during the day.
