Bees who pay their respects

Margaret Bell kept bees in her garden. She died in June 1994. Soon after her funeral, her family and friends were amazed to see hundreds of bees settle on the corner of the street opposite the house where she had lived for 26 years. a) ..................... before they flew over the rooftops. The local press took a photograph of the bees hanging on the walls.

Balloon Buddies

Laura Buxton released a helium-filled balloon during the celebrations of her grandparents’ golden wedding anniversary in Staffordshire in June 2001. b) ..................... . Ten days later she received a reply. Another girl called Laura Buxton had found the balloon in the garden of her home in Wiltshire, 225 kilometres away. Both girls were at the age of 10, and both had three-year-old black Labradors, a guinea pig and a rabbit.

Whirlwind Children

A nine-year-old Chinese girl was playing in Shanghai in July 1992 when she was carried off by a whirlwind and put down unhurt on a treetop almost three kilometres away. According to a newspaper report from May 1986, c) ..................... in the oasis of Hami in Western China and put them down unhurt on sand dunes 15 kilometres away.

Helpful Voices

Anita Brooks had heard two voices in her head telling her to return home immediately when she was on holiday. After she had gotten back in London, the voices gave her an address which was the brain scan department of a hospital. When she got there, d) ..................... . Although she had no symptoms, a scan was eventually arranged, and she did indeed have a tumour. After an operation, she heard the voices again. ‘We are pleased to have helped you,’ they said and then bade farewell to her. She made a full recovery.
