Stuck at the Airport
Dear Aunt Helen,
I’m stuck in Paris! Our flight is scheduled to leave at 4.30 p.m. today, but it is snowing a lot. They say we will be delayed for at least six hours. I love airports because there are so many people to watch. Right now I am sitting in a café and drinking hot chocolate. There is a man in a white suit who is trying to clean the coffee off of his sleeve. It’s not working. My mum is angry because her phone’s battery died and her charger is in her suitcase. She is looking for a book in the bookstore now. My dad is waiting in the arrivals area because there is a TV showing a football match.
I have to be at work at 9 a.m. tomorrow. I don’t know if that is possible, because we will probably land in the middle of the night. I can’t tell my boss I will be late because I have no Internet access and a phone call from France to America costs at least $50.
Paris was really fun. We spent a lot of time at the museums because my mum loves art, but we also ate a lot of great food. There is a meal called ‘escargot’. Do you know what it is? It’s snails! I think snails are really cute, so I was mad at my parents for eating them. They said the food was delicious. Oh! My dad just came out of the lift. I will ask him if he has learned something about the delay. I miss you!
Love,
Calista
